Toxic Tampons
Female bodies and uterus’s are being threatened again… by menstrual products! We all know that bleached tampons aren't the best for the body but now there's more.
I want to share with you a recent study done by UC Berkeley, which found levels of arsenic, lead and other toxic chemicals in “24 unique brand-product line-absorbency combinations (hereafter called “products”), representing 14 brands, 18 product lines, and five absorbencies. [They] generally selected products that were listed as top sellers on a major online retailer, as well as “store-brand” products (products with the brand name of the store where purchased or made specifically for that store) from several large chain retailers in the US.” (Science Direct)
This is a direct line of absorption to your body. Vaginal skin absorbs everything.
Levels of arsenic and other chemicals are shown to:
Declined cognition (females are susceptible to dementia and Alzheimer’s)
Fatigue
Blood sugar imbalance
Impaired circulation
Liver, kidney issues (and skin!)
Infertility and reproductive issues
This is upsetting. Chemicals build in your body over time and they are hard for your liver to process and get rid of, often getting stored in fat cells – and we wonder why stubborn weight is so darn stubborn. The negative effects of toxic chemicals in the body tend to show up slowly (all those from above and more) and then you’re left wondering why you’re falling apart later and feeling “old”. Toxic overload and damaged cells, honey's!
There's no doubt we're all holding toxins – most of us live in big cities and have used those crappy tampons and still may. But we can move forward and make positive changes for our next cycle.
When budget is an issue it’s easy to go for cheaper brands but these often have the most chemicals. I have actually saved money by investing in period underwear ($29) by Rif Care ($3 off first purchase with code nativepalms). Ever since switching over to period underwear, I feel more connected to my body, blood, and powers as a woman and having a vagina. I also use tampons, and love Honey Pot brand. And if I were to use a cup, I'd got for Orchyd Period, also check out there period tracking app, which does not sell your data. Natra Care is a great company too, by Susie Hewsan, who started this company at the age of 40 in 1989. I love this story about the company.
Now that you know, go green n'clean with your menstrual products and tell your friends and loved ones to make the switch too.
